Singapore General Information

The Republic of Singapore is well connected to the rest of the world. As one of Asia's main air hubs, it is served by numerous international airlines, which link it to the rest of Asia, Europe and the United States of America.
Visitors can also enter Singapore by land, through neighboring Malaysia, which is linked to Singapore by the Singapore-Johor causeway. Entry by way of sea is also possible as there are a number of international cruise liners calling in Singapore as the country is an established port.
Most visitors, generally, do not require visas to enter the Republic. This applies to the majority of Western nationals who either do not require a visa at all or do not require a visa for a social stay of up to 90 days. In this case, a 14-day permit will be issued on arrival.
Application for a one-month permit usually would not pose a problem and takes about one working day. Application can be made to the Singapore Immigration and Registration Department or call the Information Hotline Telephone No: 1800 391 6400, which is toll free only in Singapore.
